Local schoolgirl designs cover for Howden Show programme

An 11-year-old student from Barmby-on-the-Marsh Primary School will see her winning design printed on the cover of the programme for this year's Howden Show.

Lucy Simpson was one of more than 200 local children who entered the competition to come up with a winning front cover design. She received the good news when membersm of the Howden Show Committee visited the school to present her with her prizes.
A total of 4,500 copies of the programme, featuring Lucy's colourful and eye-catching design, will be distributed during the coming weeks to promote the show and let people know about the wide variety of attractions planned for the day.
For her efforts, Lucy won a £25 voucher, a free family ticket to Howden Show and a framed copy of her winning design.
Second prize went to Molly Atkinson (11), and Megan Hollerbach (eight) and Thomas O'Grady (nine) came joint third - all three children attend Howden Junior School.
Andy Formon, chairman of the Howden Show Committee, said: "We introduced thecompetition last year and received a great response, but this year we got even more entries and the standard was exceptionally high. We'd like to congratulate Lucy and the other prize winners, and also thank everyone who took the time to enter. All of the entries will go on display at Howden Show."
Tickets for this year's show, which will take place at The Ashes playing field in Howden on Sunday, July 1, are now on sale from Parkin's Butchers, Annie's Fruit Bowl, Michelle Louise, California Gardens, Flourish and Prosper, The Wellington Hotel and Touchwood Homecare in Howden; The Jug and Bottle in Bubwith; and The Goole Times office in Goole.
Copies of the informative, 44-page, full colour programme will also be available from these outlets free of charge.
Those who buy tickets in advance will get them at the discounted rate of £5 for adults, £2 for children (under 14 years), £12 for a family ticket (for two adults and two children), and £3 for concessions. On the day of the show, prices will rise to £6 for adults, £3 for children, £15 for the family ticket and £4 for concessions.
